| Q |
How much does a concrete seawall cost? |
| A |
There is a range of costs to install a seawall, depending
on a number of variables. Those variables include the
amount of brush to be removed, the amount of fill that
would need to be brought in or taken out, and/or if there
is a lot of rock in that area. |
| Q |
How do I find out the installation cost for my particular
site? |
| A |
You can provide us with the site address and the block
and lot numbers. We will look at the site, determine the
amount of work needed for the installation, and provide
you with a quote. |
| Q |
What will the quote include? |
| A |
The quote will include the cost to install the seawall,
all permitting and any required survey. The quote will
be detailed, with any exclusions clearly identified and
no hidden costs. |
| Q |
Is a concrete seawall my only alternative? |
| A |
It depends on the location. If located on fresh water
in Cape Coral, there are two alternatives available: A
rip rap slope alternative and a sod slope alternative.
In other areas, the options are, again, dependent on the
location: whether a man-made canal or on a natural body
of water as well as the number of seawalls in that particular
area or canal. |
| Q |
What is a rip rap slope alternative? |
| A |
A rip rap slope alternative consists of grading the
water's edge on a 2:1 slope (for every 2' horizontally,
the grade rises 1' vertically) and placing rock (rip rap)
over filter cloth. The rock is typically 3" to 12"
in size. This alternative is less costly than a concrete
seawall but more expensive than a sod slope alternative.
A rip rap slope will involve more of your buildable property
than a concrete seawall. |
| Q |
What is a sod slope alternative? |
| A |
A sod slope alternative consists of grading the water's
edge on a 4:1 slope (for every 4' horizontally, the grade
rises 1' vertically) and grass (sod) is placed over a
jute material. This is the least expensive of the alternatives,
but involves the largest amount of your buildable property. |
| Q |
Is there any other alternative? |
| A |
Yes, you can have a retaining wall installed. A retaining
wall is similar to a concrete seawall, except it is installed
landward of Mean High Water (MHW). |
| Q |
Can my builder start before the seawall is installed? |
| A |
Not as a rule. All quotes are based on the site being
vacant at the time of installation. It might be possible
for the builder to start, but first we would need to review
a site plan which shows the location of the house, lanai,
and pool on the site. We would then determine if there
is enough access for our equipment without interfering
with the house construction. If a builder starts construction
without our prior approval, additional charges will apply
for double, and perhaps triple, handling of materials
and the cost of a concrete pump. In some cases the seawall
cannot be installed at all once the house pad has been
poured. |
| Q |
Do you install docks as well? |
| A |
Yes, we can install a concrete patio dock or a wood
dock and boat lift with your seawall installation. [more
info]. |
| Q |
What are the payment terms? |
| A |
Payment terms depend largely on the total cost of the
work to be done. Normally, we require a deposit of between
$750.00 to $1,500.00 with a signed contract. The balance
would be payable on completion. If the contract is sizeable,
we may ask for a draw at some particular point in the
construction. |
| Q |
Do you accept credit cards? |
| A |
Not at this time. |
| Q |
Can I coordinate payment to Tolles Con-Crete Seawalls
with my mortgage holder/financial institution? |
| A |
Yes, if you provide us with the financial institution's
name and a contact name and number, we can forward billing
directly for payment. |
| Q |
Do you do seawall repairs? |
| A |
Yes. We will take all the necessary information, physically
look at the site, and send you a summary of what we found
and what the repair cost would be. [see
our forms] |
| Q |
Do I have to be there for you to check the site? |
| A |
Not usually. We have found the most time-efficient method
for all concerned is if we can check the site during our
normal day- to-day travels rather than trying to coordinate
calendars. |
| Q |
I am buying/selling a waterfront property that already
has a seawall. Can you inspect the seawall for structural
integrity and advise me of the findings? |
| A |
When requested, we will inspect a seawall for adequate
slab penetration, fractures, movement, leaks, etc. and
provide you with written documentation of our findings.
However, due to the time-consuming nature of the inspection,
we do charge for this service. |
